Exam Preparation Classes

There may come a time when your child has to sit an exam for entry to a gifted program (e.g. SEAL - Select Entry Accelerated Learning) or a scholarship. This often raises questions like:

  • Is it necessary or appropriate to prepare for these exams?
  • If you are going to prepare, what’s the best way to do this?

Preparing for these types of exams is about setting the student up to perform to the best of their ability so they can show their potential to the school they’d love to attend.

Exam Prep SIG

These classes are for small groups and will help students to:

  • Know what to expect when they sit the exams
  • Practise completing past exams and understand how to improve their performance
  • Find out about the range of questions they will face and the best way to tackle each of them
  • Learn how to manage their nerves and time
  • Plan how to use their strengths to best advantage
  • Clarify their goals and focus their motivation

Previous students have reported that they felt more prepared, calm and confident about sitting their exams than before and thought they performed better because of their preparation. Many have achieved entry to the school of their choice.

Here’s some feedback from previous participants and parents:

Student: “At first I was scared of future tests, but I think that with the program I am more prepared for my exam. I think I have improved quite a bit.”

Parent: “The exam prep really helped her with time management and in turn her nerves.”

Students rated the following activtites as the most useful:

- Doing practice exams

- Planning how to manage time during an exam

- How to prepare before the exams

- Strategies to solve different types of questions
